Engine control module or related module faults are less common, but they matter. Water intrusion, corrosion, failed drivers, or communication issues can create repeat problems that do not behave like a single bad sensor.

Start with the codes, but do not stop there. A code tells you what circuit or system is unhappy. It does not always prove the part itself is bad. Check wiring, connectors, grounds, and visible damage. Look for oil contamination, coolant leaks, broken clips, or corrosion around the component.
When buying a replacement, match the year, make, model, engine size, transmission, emissions package, connector style, and part number whenever possible. Many engine electronics look nearly identical but are calibrated differently.
